Illegal deforestation: The State Bureau of Investigations reported about criminal proceedings against officials in Transcarpathian and Lviv regions

The investigation established that the officials allowed the illegal felling of more than 400 beeches. The officials face imprisonment for a term of 2 to 5 years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions and a fine of 250 to 750 tax-free minimum incomes.

In Lviv region, the State Bureau of Investigations is investigating the involvement of a group of 6 people in illegal logging. It is reported that it was allegedly organized by an official of one of the region’s forestry farms. From February to March this year, they were illegally felling oaks and selling them to entrepreneurs. This caused the public losses in amount of 1.2 million hryvnias.

The State Bureau of Investigations emphasizes that if convicted, the organizer of this scheme faces up to 10 years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions. Other members of the criminal group face up to 7 years in prison.
