Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban: “We need a strong neighbor” (PHOTOS)

Today, the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban came to Transcarpathia with an official visit. At the border crossing point "Luzhanka", he met with representatives of local authorities – regional council chairman Ivan Baloha, the head of the RSA Vasyl Hubal, the first deputy chairman of the regional council Vasyl Brenzovych.

         Vasyl Hubal said that the visit of the Prime Minister of Hungary once again reiterates the support for Ukraine and neighborly intentions of Hungary. This is particularly important now, when our country is going through the most difficult times of its recent history.   He noted the positive fact that now, government in Transcarpathia works as one team that has common views on the development of the region.

Viktor Orban said that Hungary wants the situation and Ukraine to be stable. "We need a strong neighbor. We hope that there will be peace in your country. We want an open dialogue and are willing to cooperate and support. Our doors are always open for you, we will help to solve the problems that you announce" – the Prime Minister of Hungary said to the regional officials.

Ivan Baloha said that the regional authorities will do everything to preserve stability and peace in the region. The main priorities of their activity is the development of cross-border relations, especially – with our closest neighbors.

           

         The Chairman of the Council expressed the hope for further cooperation at the regional and national levels to continue, develop and deepen.

         Vasyl Hubal said that the government appreciates Hungary’s understanding and willingness to cooperate in the development of the border infrastructure.

    "The regional authorities support the reconstruction of existing and opening of new crossing points on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. The European Neighbourhood and Partnership cross-border cooperation program includes reconstruction of three checkpoints for the funds of the EU.  It is also important that the construction of a bypass road around Beregovo is planned. This will connect major highways of the region, increase the capacity of this crossing point, unloading the crossing point "Tisa", – Vasyl Hubal said.

Viktor Orban assured that Hungary would continue providing support in these projects. Also, during the negotiations, it was suggested to develop projects that will be implemented in Transcarpathia in subsequent years, and with the financial support from Hungary. The Head of the RSA Vasyl Hubal assured that the government would be working on joint projects as transparently as possible.
