Radicals in Uzhgorod tried to disrupt the rally in support of women’s rights and for the ratification of the Istanbul Convention. This was reported by the journalist Yarina Denisyuk on her page on Facebook: "They made some noise, stole posters and disappeared. The Carpathian Sich and Taras Deyak personally were particularly active. Bravo. Here are photos and video of these heroes. PS We called the police in advance but they were late."
Later, according to Yarina, the rally did take place in some form, "And there was one decent man."
Information: Europe made a contribution to the development of women’s rights around the world on August 1, 2014, when the Council of Europe Convention on combating violence against women and domestic violence entered into force.
Also known as the "Istanbul Convention" – the document was opened for signing three years ago in Istanbul – it obliges governments, that have ratified it, to take specific measures to combat all forms of violence against women from harassment and sexual abuse to domestic violence, forced marriages and female genital mutilation.
