Here it is, the “improvement”: in Transcarpathia, the volume of construction has reduced by a quarter

Regional deputies today approved the regional program for the development of housing construction in 2013. This year, 369,000 square meters of housing is expected to be commissioned in the region. In the memorandum to the program it is stated that the funding from the state budget does not meet the need, and the industry would be characterized by further dominance of individual housing construction, minor amounts of housing loans from the state and local budgets.

The program proposes to create the economic conditions to attract citizens as potential investors into the housing sector, and to provide mortgage loans of commercial banks and limit their rates through banking institutions determined by the NBU and the government. Overall, almost 22 million hryvnias are required for the construction of 369 sq. m. of housing.

As of January 1 this year, 8,118 families in the region are on the housing register. Of those, only 24 received their own homes last year. Meanwhile, in Transcarpathia the volume of construction works has decreased by a 25%: almost 380 million hryvnias have been invested in construction, 366 thousand square meters of living space have been commissioned. In the region, the average cost per square meter in 2012 was 4,431 UAH, in Ukraine – 5,142 UAH.
