Yesterday, June 3, at the Teatralna Square and the pedestrian bridge, hundreds of Uzhgorod citizens gathered to fly a lantern into the sky. They were being sold on the spot for 30 to 80 hryvnia per one.
The event was a little bit delayed because of the reluctance of participants to fly lanterns by day, so everyone was waiting for dusk. Because of this temporal dissonance it was failed to achieve the effect of massiveness of heavenly lanterns. However, the townspeople extended pleasure for almost two hours. They were constantly coming and buying lanterns to fly them into the sky themselves.
Opinions of participants of the event varied. Daniella says: "It turned silly… all people were individually lighting lanterns and the show failed. Probably because of timing. Few people wanted to fly them when it wasn’t dark yet".
Ekaterina, another participant, said that she had come with her family to light the lantern on purpose. "I took part in the same even last year. I liked it very much and now I decided to bring here my whole family"- says the girl.
