Local young naturalists are trying to save Uzhgorod birds. They hung 30 nesting-boxes for starlings and bluebirds in a central park for this purpose. The hand-made wooden houses have to save birds and their nestlings from bad weather and predators. Meanwhile, young naturalists master on practice theoretical knowledge they gained in the environmental groups.
Volunteers-ecologists from the regional Department of Ecology made nesting-boxes for this event. They made a little mistake with the functional features of the house construction. Next year, young naturalists will make the nesting-boxes’ roofs removable so that we could watch and take care of birds.
The event ‘Give home to birds’ will last two weeks. It is planned that students will make and hang more than a hundred of artificial nesting-boxes in Uzhgorod parks and near their schools during this period.
