The Director of Transcarpathian Music and Drama Theater in Uzhgorod Vasyl Mariukhnych told journalists that they are now preparing another premiere, which will be presented in early October. It will be "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare.
It is timed to the 100 anniversary of Yaroslav Helyas, Ukrainian actor, director, People’s Artist of the USSR, who was called Ukrainian Hamlet. Although the director was born in Ternopil region, and for the bulk of his life he worked in Kyiv, Kharkiv and Lviv theaters, he spent his last years in Uzhgorod. In 1974-1992, he was the main director of the Music and Drama Theater…
"Hamlet" will be directed by Helyas’s son, also Yaroslav. Grandson of the famous director will be playing one of the leading roles.
And finally, some good news – the production will be financed by a patron. This is the first precedent in the history of the theater, when a businessman, intrigued by the idea, gives the money. Otherwise, the production of one play on average costs 45 thousand hryvnia, the director of the theater says.
