“Fixtures from “Khemkostav”? This is not what we dream about” – the Mayor

On June 11, the Department of Municipal Economy of Uzhgorod City Council, following the tender, entered into the 9.57 million hryvnias agreement with the "Khemkostav-UA" on the reconstruction of street lighting in Uzhgorod. This was reported by the Nashi Hroshi

In total, they shall replace 1,067 fixtures on 29 streets of Uzhgorod, lay 18.6 km of cables, hang 21.8 km of wires and insert almost 6 km of cables into fixtures.

It is already known what exactly will be replaced and where

uzhgorod.in asked the Mayor to answer when the works are to begin and what the tender means for the city. Here’s what Victor Pogorelov said. Quotation.

"Khemkostav"? This is not what we dream about. In general, regarding the reconstruction of lighting system, we have two programs. This tender does not fit into the extensive one, which we have conceived. In Kyiv, Vasyl Kovacs is lobbying an extensive program for Uzhgorod, it involves significant amount of money. And we have an extensive program for 25 million – complete replacement of grids. But the replacement of bulbs with modern energy saving ones costs about a million, and it will be done soon. But it’s not what we dream about, we have an extensive program…"

The issue of the implementation of ambitious and expensive program of street lighting reconstruction has been talked about in Uzhgorod for more than a year. Thus, in March they said that there was a tentative agreement with the members of the Verkhovna Rada on the financing for the program of street lighting reconstruction (the one, that was approved quite long ago, but has never been implemented) from the state budget.

The Mayor then said to uzhgorod.in that Vasyl Kovacs (the CEO of the "Zakarpattyaoblenergo" and now an MP) had phoned him and Victor Pogorelov had given him the project of street lighting reconstruction and the deputy promised to help. As for the program, submitted to Kovacs, its funding amounts to 25 million hryvnias. "We have allocated one million from the budget for this program. If we receive at least 3-4 million from the state budget, the situation with the lighting in the city will change significantly"- Pogorelov said.
