The traditional 14th gastronomic festival of Transcarpathia "Disno tor" – competition of pig butchers.
Yes, the festival was originally a competition. Many people in this region kept pigs. The domain of Mukachevo Castle had to send to the royal table two carts of bacon and wine every year. Wine and pork were the best product in the domain, tourism expert Maxim Adamenko says.
People kept pigs, but not all owners wanted and knew how to slaughter cattle properly, quickly and painlessly. This was done by butchers who were invited for this job.
Nowadays, even though butchers continue to do their job, the public festival has already lost its traditional format.
Lost the competition format, but did not lose its flavour and atmosphere. A large assortment of meat dishes, sausages, ribs, etc. are prepared at the festival early in the morning before the arrival of guests and tourists.
