The best medium in the genre of chronicle is a picture. Of course, it can be described in words. But we remember things mainly in images. At least, the best of them are more vivid. And they convey emotions better. What was this year like for the region and for the city? We offer a chronicle of events without claim to comprehensiveness and objectivity. In frames. January
Traditionally, the social life in the region begins no sooner than in the second half of the first month of the new year. And the first week is marked with the celebration of Christmas.
On Vasyl’s Day, the festival "Red Wine" takes place in Mukachevo, one of the leading tourist events of the year.
This time the event is remarkable, because they present the sculpture of Bacchus at the festival. The author is a sculptor Mykola Shmatko, who was invited to live in Mukachevo. However, the whimsical artist, whose work was quite heavily criticized, will soon bid farewell to the city on Latorica.
Seeking for real winter, we are going to Mizhhirya district – near the Synevyr in the rehabilitation center for brown bears, it is a real winter fairy tale. With wonderful bears.
Border guards have work in any weather. Even on high mountain outposts.
The festival, which causes the biggest controversy. And at the same time, it is a tribute to honor the difficult and needful profession of the butchers. The festival of butchers in Hecha in Beregovo district always begins at dawn. And with a lot of blood.
February
Winter flooding in Uzhgorod. The city suffers from rains. Rescuers pump out the water (storm water drain would not have handled it even if it had been in perfect condition), and on Pestel street, a building collapsed. No victims.
Roads in the region do not need any comments.
Workers heroically patch them, using advanced technology.
The competetion of beauties – for the first time, the Cup of Ukraine in rhythmic gymnastics, in the presence of the head of the Federation, legendary Albina Deryugina, was held in Uzhgorod.
Uzhgorod Rotary Club with the support of colleagues from Corvallis gave the "Way of Life" a robotic lift for wheel-chaired disabled – a much needed thing for the kids. Some of them for the first time visited the computer science room in their school, which is located on the third floor.
March
In the village of Vertep, Mykhailo Hintsyak keeps a herd of buffalos. Rare animals survive only thanks to the enthusiasm of the owner – farmers consider them unprofitable. However, it has become tourist attraction.
The first month of spring surprises with lingering winter. In mid-March, it still snows.
And here is a picture dated March 26.
Spring in the camp. Statistically, Transcarpathia remains among the leaders in terms of fertility. Doctors say, the Roma play significant part in it. However, they live in very poor living conditions, and this, of course, is no news. However, there will be several conflicts over the year – the city officials will announce: houses, built close to the dam, will be demolished; they will deal with illegal buildings.
The wave of opposition campaigns "Arise, Ukraine!" begins from Uzhgorod. The rally becomes the most massive event in the city in recent years.
April
And again – long-lasting rains. As a result, agricultural lands were flooded. Irshava district suffered the most – only in the village of Zarichchya, famous for its early cabbage, the water covered 50 hectares of land, including that under greenhouses.
In Uzhgorod, in the cemetery on Peremoha Street, the newly erected wooden church was consecrated. The idea was to recreate the burnt church of 1813 in the village of Neresnytsya, Tyachiv district. The building is criticized; they say, the location is controversial.
As part of the journey throughout the world, miraculous relics of St. John Bosco arrived to Uzhgorod. Hundreds of people gathered in the Roman Catholic church.
In Transcarpathia, people begin to prepare for one of the most favorite holidays. Thousands of baskets from Iza will be distributed all over Ukraine and beyond.
The tourist season is close, and the riverbanks are… Well, see for yourself.
The road to the Synevyr is still dangerous: the landslide effects have not been remedied. The money, provided for the repair project, still have not been allocated, meanwhile the slope slid even more. Soon, prosecutors will begin investigation into this case.
The swimming tournament for children with disabilities was held in Uzhgorod. 62 athletes participated.
Spring is coming… Tourists are coming too…
A remarkable sport event in the region. "Uzhgorod Open – 2013" brings together about a thousand dancing couples and judges from 24 countries.
Palm Sunday. The crowd of parishioners gathered near the Cathedral for the consecration by Milan Shashik.
The crowd on Narodna Square. For the first time this season. The government decided "to plant" Easter trees on the square. People rejoice. And the trampled lawn will be another argument for the "reconstruction".
May
Preparation for Easter is in full swing. Traditionally, one has to bake holiday bread and do household chores. In the mountain village of Kolochava, they are good at both.
The football match "Goverla" – "Karpaty" ends with clashes between Lviv fans and Uzhgorod policemen.

Handball season is finished. Handball club "Karpaty" again becomes the champion of Ukraine. The Governor Oleksandr Ledyda (who is also the honorary president of the club) is really happy.
Rescuers are preparing for the swimming season – training takes place on the lake in Didovo. Unfortunately, the summer still will take some victims as a result of water recreation without complying with safety rules.
In Chynadiyevo in the castle of St. Miklos, the second Festival "Silver Tatosh" took place. Reenactors from Slovakia and Hungary arrived at the festival. The event claims the status of the most exciting festival of the season.
June
In Transcarpathia, solar power stations are presented. Near the village of Rativtsi, 10 hectares are covered with panels that generate energy. The head of the RSA examines the largest power station in Transcarpathia. Especially, since it belongs, as they say, to his fellow party members. Obviously, they want to develop this industry.
In Uzhgorod school number 6, they present modern equipment – the school, along with other 55 schools in the country, received interactive whiteboards, digital labs. Children can now use tablets. Whether the teachers are ready for this is open to the debate.
General Vasyl Vartsaba talks to journalists. The police chief promises transparency, assistance and to fight with parking rules violators, who have much public attention in Uzhgorod. They even create a facebook page for this. However, the next time the chief of the police comments on camera will be in almost six months.
In Uzhgorod, the youth protest against the bill, which restricts the right to peaceful assembly. They do not know yet, how many times they will have to come out to the streets this year…
At the beginning of the linden alley – on Nezaleznhist embankment in Uzhgorod, they installed info boards, telling visitors about the two green attractions: the alley and the Masaryk aspen.
In the "residential" neighborhood – at the beginning of Hrushevsky Street, in a quiet courtyard, a large willow tree fell on the ground. Several cars were smashed, people, fortunately, were not injuried. The incident forced the city government to at least count dangerous trees – there are about five hundred of them in the city.
Special expedition involving ecologists, rescue workers and the community saves the Borzhava river from garbage plugs. The event marking the Day of the Danube, is held with the assistance of the leading manufacturer of soft drinks (most of the plugs consists of plastic waste, such as bottles)
