Facilities in the wind

Transcarpathia is among the three regions where authorities are not concerned with equipping toilets in schools

This year, in Transcarpathia more than 16 thousand children will become first-graders. However, not all of them will have a comfortable learning environment.

The "Zamok" already wrote that Transcarpathian schools are nor equipped with in-door restrooms and predicted that instead of the arrangement of normal toilets the current authorities on September 1 would be giving out notebooks, diaries or pens with the Party of Resions symbols. And it seems that it is going to be just so.

According to the Department of Education of the Regional State Administration, 37.7% of all toilets are situated out-doors, and the same problem is with kindergartens.

In 9.5% of these institutions little children are forced to go to the toilet outside even in cold weather, snow blizzards and rains. Probably, the worst situation today is in Tyachiv district where out of the 74 local school only 17 have the toilets inside the buildings.

Instead, these schools received stationary with Party of Regions symbols.

Director of Sasiv secondary school in Vynogradiv district Vira Makarova says that once their school was designed as a premises with internal toilets, but first they could not equip them, and eventually the utilities have become unfit for use. The director does not believe that Sasiv school may have internal toilet already this year, they had already turned with such a proposal to the district education department. "Last year came the representatives of a firm, took measurements, and then invoiced 70 thousand UAH for only technical documents! And to equip restrooms with toilet seats, filters, water dispensers, you need as much, if not more. Where can we get such money? "

Director of Vilhivka-Lazy school Ivan Hotz said: "I am very negative about the fact that students must go to the toilet outside, because it does not meet sanitary standards. In addition, in winter students get sick more often because of that. And, unfortunately, so far it is not possible to make toilets inside the premises of our school" – confessed the director.

Toilets are promised to be built during the year

The only people who are optimistic about this issue are the officials. For example, the head of the Department of Education of Perechin DSA Marina Moshak assured the "Zamok" that 92% of district schools are equipped with in-door toilets. Other lavatories will be transfered to the premises during this academic year at the expense of the budget (notice, that nobody promises to at least try to fulfill orders of the Prime Minister neither by September 1 nor by October 1).
