“Candle of Memory” will be reminding Uzhgorod residents about the tragedy of the Holodomor (PHOTOS)

Today, in the atrium of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration and the Regional Council, the results of the open contest for the best project of the monument to victims of the 1932-1933 Holodomor, which is planned to be installed on the main square of Transcarpathia (Uzhgorod, Narodna Sq,, 2) – in memory of one of the most tragic pages of the history of the Ukrainian people – will be announced, the Department of Culture of the RSA reported.

7 authors – from Uzhgorod, Mukachevo, Khust, Lviv and Kyiv – were submitted their projects to the Department of Culture of the Regional State Administration within the deadlines and in accordance with the conditions published in the official media. During the week, their works were presented to the public in the atrium, today the projects were evaluated by experts.

By secret ballot, the best projects were identified, and only after that the envelopes with information about the authors were opened. So the winners are:

– III place – Illya Lypka (Lviv);

– II place – the team of author: sculptor Vasyl Zalyasko, architect Mariana Popovich and designer Yuriy Chaly (Lviv);

– I place – the team of author: sculptor Igor Hrechanyk and architect Lyudmila Hrechanyk (the city of Kyiv). 

The authors of the third and second results will receive incentive awards in the amount of 6,000 UAH and 10,000 UAH accordingly, and the authors of the best project will be commissioned for the installation of the monument.
