Border guards were offered a bribe for accelerated clearance of a minibus

Last night, a 37-year-old driver of a van Mercedes tried to accelerate the passage of border control by offering a bribe to a border guard of the Chop detachment at the checkpoint "Uzhgorod" in Transcarpathia. Going to Slovakia, the man offered the border guards a cash reward of 200 hryvnias if they agreed to allow his vehicle to cross the out of the queue.

The border guards refused the offer and reported it to their management and to the National Police. A notification of an offense under Art.369 of the Criminal Code "Offer, promise or giving of undue benefits to an official" was sent to Uzhgorod police department.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has zero tolerance for corruption. In view of repeated attempts to bribe border guards, we remind of criminal liability for persons who offer bribes to border guards or incite them to corrupt actions. When crossing the border, strictly adhere to the current legislation and do not attempt to involve the staff of the detachment in illegal activities, the Press Service of the Chop Border Guard Detachment informs.
