Bilateral meeting of Transcarpathian and Michalovce customs leaders will take place soon (PHOTOS)

On Thursday (November 20, 20), the Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhgorod hosted a bilateral working meeting between the head of the diplomatic mission Pavol Panis and the head of the Transcarpathian Customs of the State Customs Service Ivan Berezhnyuk. 

The Consul General informed the Chief Customs Officer of the region that last night he had had a telephone conversation with the head of the Customs Department in Michalovce (Slovakia), who is willing to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart at the international checkpoint "Uzhgorod-Vysne Nemecke" to discuss and resolve urgent problems of the two customs offices.

For his part, Ivan Berezhnyuk thanked the distinguished diplomat for his active participation in issues related to the work of customs at the border. In particular, in speeding up the processing of trucks on the Slovak side. Thus, today there is a tendency to the increase of the truck processing rate by the Slovak customs officers – 80 during the day and 60 at night. The head of the customs asked the Slovak Consul General to assist the Slovak side in increasing the processing rate up to 160 trucks per day, which will reduce the long queue on the Ukrainian side. 

The official also expressed willingness to meet with his Slovak counterpart on December 16, 2006. And handed over to the Consul General the corresponding letter with the basic topics for discussion. Those include: 

– interaction in the exchange of information about goods and vehicles moving across the Ukrainian-Slovak border using digital technologies; 

– mutual exchange of information on detected violations of customs rules; 

– increase in the capacity of the checkpoint "Uzhgorod-Vysne Nemecke"; 

– organization of pedestrian traffic at the checkpoint "Uzhgorod-Vysne Nemecke". 

Finally, the parties agreed to continue to work closely together, to create appropriate conditions for crossing the Ukrainian-Slovak border, to promptly take organizational measures for the prompt clearance of customs procedures.
