Baloga wrote a letter to Azarov: Ukraine can meet the same fate as Crimea

Instability of weather conditions in Ukraine, high probability of abnormal rainfalls when taking into account the problems associated with the state systems of population’s notification, dams, hydro-technical constructions on water objects of the state, require urgent organizational and practical measures.

The Minister of Emergency Situations Viktor Baloga appealed to Prime Minister Mykola Azarov with the request to take measures on prevention of recurrence in Ukraine the tragedy that occurred in the Krasnodar region of Russia on July 7.

In particular, the Minister proposed to hold an extraordinary meeting of the State commission on techno-genetics and ecological safety and emergency situations in order to analyze the causes of possible flooding.

‘Instability of weather conditions in Ukraine, high probability of abnormal rainfalls when taking into account the problems associated with the state systems of population’s notification, dams, hydro-technical constructions on water objects of the state, require urgent organizational and practical measures’, – was written in the letter.

Flooding on the night of July 7 flooded more than 7,000 apartment houses in three cities (Gelendzhyk, Crimea, Novorossiisk) and a number of villages of Krasnodar region. According to the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia, over 170 people died.
