ATO participants intend to restore the forest cut down by border guards

It is the deforested area of 30 kilometers in Transcarpathian region along the state border, which is the subject of criminal proceedings. Members of the NGO "Ukrainian Association of Disabled ATO Participants" intend to restore it on their own and with the help of active Ukrainians.

Mykola Zhuravlev said: "We are concerned about the fact that the forest along the state border with the EU (Slovakia) was cut down. The total length of cuttings is 30 km. The estimated amount is more than 6,000 cubic meters of wood, and those are sycamore, beech and ash, which is used to make musical instruments. Thus, the preliminary estimated amount of losses is $ 1 million."

Mykola Zhuravlev said that he would buy trees at his own expense. He also called border guards to join them in planting of trees.

"This forest should be named in honor of the fallen Transcarpathian soldiers, – M. Zhuravlev says. – The first plantation will be named after Yuriy Birovchak from Uzhgorod." The organizers plan to start planting trees from Domanyntsi where the killed soldier lived.

According to the organizers, they plan to start planting in late September (tentatively, the 20th) and hope to receive all the necessary permits from the State Border Guard Service.
