A small victory for a potentially big road!

The "Ukrzaliznytsia" has prohibited its employees to write off and dismantle any rolling stock, roads, infrastructure and architecture facilities at narrow gauge railways Antonivka-Zarichne and Vynogradiv-Irshava-Beregovo.

This was told to the LB.ua by the chief of the UZ retro sector Vlad Plakhotniuk.

According to him, the management of the "UZ" yesterday sent a telegram to the branch of the Lviv railway, that in six months spent UAH 1.3 million for the out-of-service stretch Irshava-Khmilnyk. Also, the telegram stresses on the need to prepare carriages for winter and to repair the locomotive TU 2-018 at the Borzhava narrow-gauge road.

"Narrow gauge railways are important and promising tourist attractions. In addition, they provide passenger transportation, and in the future have the potential to transport cargo. Destruction of the rolling stock and infrastructure is unacceptable. We should follow the example of European countries – to preserve the history of the railroad and to develop railroad tourism", – Vladislav said by phone.

As you know,, earlier activists have repeatedly warned about the intents to close narrow gauge railways and to dismantle the station on the line, but they always managed to prevent it. However, the narrow gauge in Ukraine is still in poor condition.
