A Rakhiv “musketeer” lost his sword and received three years probation

The sentence of the Uzhgorod City and District Court regarding the resident of Rakhiv district, who had illegally imported edged weapons across the state border of Ukraine and Hungary, came into force. 

At the beginning of 2012 at the customs post "Tisa" of the Chop customs during customs inspection of the van, which was heading from France to Ukraine, among the luggage the customs officers found hidden sword and saber. Cold weapon was hidden in a package among food products. Later the officers of the Security Service of Ukraine detained the sender of the contraband, a 45-year-old resident of Rakhiv district, in Lviv, where he arrived by plane from France.

The man explained to the police that he had found these items at a construction facilities in France, where he was moonlighting. Returning to Ukraine, he decided to send the items to his family as a souvenir.

For smuggling of the cold weapon, investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region initiated against the citizen a criminal case under Part 1 of Art. 201 (smuggling) and Part 2 of Art. 263 (unlawful use of firearms, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Uzhgorod City and District Court convicted the citizen of Ukraine and sentenced him to 5 years in prison with probationary period of 3 years.According to the court decision, the contraband items, a sword and a saber, shall be confiscated by the state.
