Tyachiv District Prosecutor’s Office are conducting the pre-trial investigation into the acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of unlawful benefit and abuse of authority or office by a Tyachiv police officer.
According to the Tyachiv District Prosecutor Vladyslav Bratyuk: "On June 11, a 24-year-old resident of Tyachiv reported to the Prosecutor about the abuse of authority, accompanied by violence and the use of special equipment by an inspector of Bushtyno police station of Tyachiv District Police Department and the extortion of unlawful benefit in the amount of one thousand hryvnias."
According to the man, in the evening of June 10, Junior Lieutenant M. with an unknown person came to his house, handcuffed him, and brought him to the Bushtyno police station. There, according to the victim, the police officer beat him with a rubber club, motivating his actions by non-payment of 51 hryvnias fine for committing administrative violation (appearance in public while being intoxicated) by the latter. In addition, the lieutenant said that due to non-payment of the said fine, the man now must pay him 1,000 UAH.
According to the man, he gave the police officer 200 UAH immediately, and the policeman ordered to give the rest of the sum the next day to the seller of a tobacco kiosk."On the same day, Tyachiv district prosecutors registered the information under the said statement in the Unified register of pre-trial investigations, and initiated the investigation into criminal offenses under Part 2 of Article 365, Part 4 of Art.368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which are combined into a single criminal proceeding" – Vladyslav Bratyuk said.
The suspect was arrested in the order of Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine.
Prosecutor’s office ensured the control over the pre-trial investigation.
