An illegal import of a vehicle into Ukraine was prevented yesterday in the evening by the border guards and customs officers at the checkpoint "Tisa". First, during the check of a minibus "Mercedes Vito" with Slovak registration, law enforcement officers had doubts about the validity of the documents for the car. So, they decided to inspect the vehicle thoroughly. During the inspection, the border guards found signs of tampering with the technical passport. In addition, during the verification of ownership, the border guards found that the power of attorney for the minibus was also forged.
When the border customs examined the vehicle itself, they found signs of tampering with the body number, which was subsequently confirmed by the expert of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region. Then, they looked up the vehicle in the Interpol databases. According to them, the minibus "Mercedes Vito" made in 2016 was stolen earlier this year in Germany.
Having received confirmation from the Interpol, the border guards called the investigation team of Uzhgorod Police Department. Upon completion of the necessary procedural steps, the vehicle was handed over to the National Police investigation team for further investigation.
