A dozen leading universities in Europe and the U.S. joined the Coursera project, that allows everybody to study free of charge via the Internet.
In particular, the programs of such universities as California Institute of Technology, Johns Hopkins University, University of Edinburgh and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne will be presented there.

California Institute of Technology and University of Pennsylvania have announced a joint investment into Coursera – 3.7 million dollars.
Previously, the project Coursera offered courses of Princeton University, the University of Michigan, Stanford, University of California, Berkeley and University of Pennsylvania.
12 universities, which have now joined to the platform, will offer dozens of new courses in arts, healthcare, math, history, literature, computer science and so on.
At the end of the Internet course, students can receive a certificate, which, unlike the courses, will not be free.
Studying is a free, all a potential student needs is a computer with internet access.
Courses in the program will begin in autumn 2012.
