Transcarpathia congratulates the Hungarian community of the region and the neighboring Hungary of the anniversary of the revolution

Our neighbors – the Hungarians – celebrate the 59th anniversary of the revolution and the liberation struggle of 1956.

October 23, 1956, in Budapest, there was 200,000 people strong rally against the regime of the pro-Soviet government. The protesters, demanding better living conditions, political and economic reforms, democratic freedoms, seized the building of the radio station, military factories. The uprising spread to many regions of Hungary. The armed conflict began.

On Friday, the Chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Volodymyr Chubirko, the deputy head of the Regional State Administration, the Chief of Staff of the RSA Oleksandr Petik, the Minister of National Development of Hungary Miklos Shestak, Hungarian diplomats, leaders of the Hungarian national-cultural associations, members of the public laid flowers at the memorial plaque on the building of the prison in Uzhgorod in honor of the citizens – participants of the historical events of 1956, who were held there in custody.

Also, on the day before, Hungarian diplomats held a reception on the occasion of the anniversary of the Hungarian revolution and the liberation struggle of the Hungarian people in 1956.
